Boats Under the Shade

Oil on Linen

60x70cm

A familiar place where I usually stop to admire the view over the open lake, this time I took a moment to turn my gaze. A small area dedicated to the resting place for boats. This is where the local fishermen start their day. What captured my eye was the way these boats sink into the background as they seem to be engulfed in shadow. We can only just make them out as they blend so smoothly with their environment. The small fishing hut to the left has reappeared in a number of my paintings, it is simply a small shed holding some tools and fishing nets. The rest of the painting has an almost pointillism effect, making use of directional brushstrokes. It was an attempt on my part to convey a sense of spring bursting into life, and the bright sun penetrating the foliage and surrounding nature.
